It all started when a team at University of Florida in 1965. The team wanted to develop a drink for professional athletes to replenish the nutrients lost during the game, prevent dehydration, and issues related to an overheating organism such as cramps or exhaustion. The drink was first tested on the NFL team Florida Gators. That is why it was named “Gatorade”.

In that season the players were drinking Gatorade during the game they had significantly higher stamina. That can be proven by their record in that season when they were known to be the team of second halves and managed to get their first title Orange Bowl.
